Decisions
My birthday is tomorrow. When I wrote this post last year on my birthday, I never dreamed that the last year of my mid-twenties would go by so quickly. Oh well, I'm becoming an old lady...I've got a kid, I'm shopping for another house, and *cringe* I'm possibly shopping for a minivan. I HATE minivans, but I'm looking for function.
Right now, I have a Honda Accord, which is fine, but my husband has a single cab (is that what you call it?) Ford Ranger. He will be the one bringing the babe to the babysitter. By the way, I went to meet the babysitter on Thursday. She seemed really nice, and she's only charging me $80 a week! Anyway, everyone knows it's safest for baby to ride in the back seat, but he has no back seat. So if he brings her it will definitely be in the front seat, and we will need to turn off the airbag....but he has no switch to turn off the airbag because his truck is a 97 model. To turn off the airbag we have to contact the Tennessee Department of Transportation, have them send a letter stating that it is OK to turn off the airbag, THEN the Ford dealership has to get a kit to install a switch so that we can turn off the airbag. All of this has to be done in less than two weeks, AND I'm still not OK with her riding in the front seat!
What stinks is that, as you know, we're going to be buying a bigger house soon, and we really don't need a car payment and we really don't want to spend all of our savings that we want to use for a down payment on the house. SOOOO...I have no idea what we're going to do. We may try to find a used car. My husband HATES used stuff...anything used.. cars, books, clothes, anything. I figure a minivan is the most practical for a family, maybe an SUV. I figure we'll have the car for a long time, and we need to get something that can accomodate more children. If I were to get pregnant again in the next year or two I would have at least two carseats in the car...not to mention that I always sort of plan for twins in my mind since I was pregnant with twins before...that would be three carseats. Any ideas on what kinds of vehicles can handle that many kids????
And....here's some new pictures...completely unrelated...
She LOVES to stretch. She stretches ALL THE TIME!

Here's another pic I took yesterday of her and the doll. I'm sure she has no idea what it's supposed to be, but nonetheless she loves it.
I bought her an exersaucer this week because she's wearing me out with wanting to stand CONSTANTLY. She is not happy unless she's in a standing position, which does a number on my arms after a while. She can stand in the saucer on her own. The seat is WAY too big for her, so I have to pad it with a blanket.
She stands in there and spins herself around; she's more interested in doing that than she is with the toys so far. However, this carousel toy makes noise, so it does seem to catch her attention.
The swing has definitely not been one of her favorite things, but every once in a while she'll let me put her in it and she'll actually act happy. I think she likes it better when I get rid of the toy bar and just let her swing.
Have a great weekend!!!

And he loves standing...as soon as we try to put him the carseat he straightens his legs making it impossible to buckle him (I'm always think about Dennis the Menice when he does this.)
About the minivan - my SIL bought a Honda Odessey - oh my gosh, that thing is awesome. At least go test drive. I, like you, have always hated mini-vans, but after driving this one around, I can totally see us in one. It just has so much more space than our Trail Blazer. And here in Houston, the AC vents in the roof are perfect. Because usually the backwards facing car seat blocks all the air from the baby, but with the fan...perfect.
And last, but not least, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Happy, happy birthday, on this your special day...lol.
Hope you have a great one.
:O)
Her pics are too cute, I love the one with her holding the doll.
We own a Grand Caravan it's a 7 passenger, it's great, tons of room. We have the baby's carseat and 2 booster seats and everyone sits comfortably and away from each other. It has the captain seats behind the front 2 seats also. So lots of distance from each other ;)
And a minivan?...I'm hoping we don't have to take that plunge, but we found out (to our delight!) that our Toyota Corolla barely fits one car seat, so it won't work for us for too long, since we are planning on having more kids. So I'm not sure what we're going to do. If we were rich, I would get a Toyota Sequoia.
But we're not rich. Blast.
We didn't have too much to chose from when we got our current van. We were/are on a budget, so we had to get what we could afford. I wouldn't really recommend the Freestar because the back seats are really low to the ground, not very comfortable for adult passengers(but ok, for kids).
The 3rd row seat folds into the floor, which is a nice feature, but there is not much room to squeeze past the middle seat to get to the back.
I would love to trade it in for a Honday Odyssey or a Toyota Sienna, but they are a bit out of our price range for now.
Would it be possible for you and your hubby to switch vehicles? Could you maybe take the truck and he take the car when he has to drop the baby off? i don't know if that would work for you, but just a thought.
